BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a petition by a Central Government employee against the Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore district and Chairman of the Caste verification Committee directing the tahsildar to cancel a caste certificate given to her. The petitioner, Shobha Lakshmi, claimed to belong to Maleru caste and she is employed as an Administrative and Accounts Assistant in the office of the Sahitya Academy, Bangalore. However, the caste certificate given to her was cancelled by the Bangalore North tahsildar on directions from the Deputy Commissioner. She claimed that a caste certificate once issued could not be cancelled. However, the tahsildar had cancelled the certificate, saying that she belonged to Brahmin Maleru and not Maleru category. She said the cancellation was without holding any inquiry.
