Fair wages panel set up

Thiruvananthapuram: A fair wages committee has been set up with the former Labour Commissioner E.P. Gangadharan as chairman under the Kerala Motor Transport Workers (Payment of fair wages) Act of 1971 to revise the fair wages of the workers in the transport industry of the State. The tenure of the committee is six months. The office work connected with the committee's functioning will be performed by the staff of the minimum wages advisory board. — Special Correspondent

Reconstituted

Thiruvananthapuram: The Institute of Parliamentary Affairs has been reconstituted with V. Viswan and A. Sambath as members of the Board of Governors. — Special Correspondent

Air Chief to arrive today

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi will arrive here on March 11 on a two-day visit. He will participate in the Commanders' conference being held at the Southern Air Command. This is the farewell visit of the Air Chief who is to retire on March 31. — Special Correspondent

Expresses concern

Thiruvananthapuram: The State unit of the All-India LPG Distributors' Federation has expressed concern over the agitation at the Kozhikode bottling plant of the IOC spreading to Kochi and Kollam. Federation general secretary M. Sangeeth Kumar said in a statement here that not a single cylinder had come out of these plants in the last three days. The IOC had 26 lakh LPG consumers in Kerala. The entire service was paralysed due to the agitation, he said. — Special Correspondent

V.K. Krishna Menon Award

KOLLAM: Head of the Ezhukone-based Mata Charitable Trusts Mata Prasanna has been selected for V.K. Krishna Menon Award instituted by the V.K. Krishna Menon Memorial Samithy. The award carrying a cash prize of Rs. 25,001 and a citation will be presented to her at a function to be held in Thiruvananthapuram in April. — Staff Reporter

Training programme for teachers

PATHANAMTHITTA: A 15-day research and development programme for lecturers of professional colleges will be held under the joint auspices of the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Mar Athanasios College For Advanced Studies in Thiruvalla (MACFAST) at the college auditorium from

March 12. In a statement issued here on Thursday, college principal Fr. Abraham Mulamoottil and programme co-ordinator M.S. Samuel, said Dr. Krishna Jayakar of Pennsylvania University will inaugurate the programme. Cherian Ramanalil Corepiscopa, will preside.
