MYSORE: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists were taken into custody when they allegedly tried to disrupt a programme in which Commissioner for Information, K.R.V. Tagore was participating here on Saturday. Mr. Tagore was attending the felicitation programme of R.N. Padmanabhan, a professor of Maharaja's College who retired recently. Mr. Tagore had come under attack from the Rakshana Vedike for his reported remarks on media coverage of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal at a workshop last month. He had pleaded for more analytical and insightful articles and reportedly said that some of the activists were agitating for publicity.
Felicitation
Saturday's felicitation programme was organised by the Karnataka State Communication and Journalism Teachers' Association and the Mysore University Journalism Students Association. Mr. Tagore was invited to felicitate Prof. Padmanabhan. Getting wind of his presence in the city, Rakshana Vedike activists assembled at the Maharaja's College Centenary Hall where the felicitation was being held and raised slogans against him. But the police had anticipated trouble and had posted adequate personnel who swung into action and took the activists into custody. They were later released.
