`Budget failed to solve farmers' issues'

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: President of Bharatiya Janapaksham K. Raman Pillai said here on Saturday that the State budget contained no creative proposal and did not address the problems faced by farmers.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Pillai said instead of bringing down the escalating prices of essential commodities, the proposals for new taxation in the budget would only result in increasing prices further.

Though the LDF had promised to allocate Rs.30,000 crore for increasing agricultural production during its five-year term, the budget had earmarked only Rs. 1,000 crore for this year.

He said Janapaksham would conduct discussions on various aspects of the budget and submit its proposals to the Government.

He said various sub-committees of the Janapaksham had been formed.

Regarding the issues within the Bharatiya Janata Party in the State, Mr. Pillai said the present leadership here had been making use of the party for personal gains.
