Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram MP Pannian Ravindran has urged Union Minister for Health Anbumani Ramadoss to drop the move to shift the Ayurveda Research Centre from Poojapura in Thiruvananthapuram. In a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister, he said the institute was set up under the Health Ministry in 1975 to coordinate research activities in traditional medicine systems. Recalling the achievements of the centre, he said the researchers here had developed a drug for psoriasis. "The institute is currently engaged in research on scientifically-validated products to tap the booming global market for herbal medicines. It is also a key player in the effort to preserve the rich biodiversity in the region. Shifting the institute would prove detrimental at a time when research activities were in full swing," the memorandum said. Mr. Ravindran said the State Government had released 1.5 acres of land at Poojappura to develop facilities at the institute.
