`Congress misleading Delhiites'

Staff Reporter

The new Master Plan would spell disaster for the Capital, says BJP

NEW DELHI: Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and in charge of Delhi, on Sunday accused the Congress of misleading the people of the Capital on the issue of sealing and demolition.

Addressing a press conference along with Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan, Prof. Malhotra said Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, his deputy Ajay Maken and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit were trying to fool the people by saying that sealing would not take place when about 5,000 houses have been sealed or demolished in the past month and another 1 lakh face immediate action.

Stating that relief was only possible to the people if a general amnesty scheme was brought in, Prof. Malhotra said by stating that sealing will not resume the Congress leaders were also committing contempt of court since the case of Master Plan is pending hearing in the Supreme Court. Stating that the new Master Plan would spell disaster by making Delhi a big slum, the BJP leader said the announcement on regularisation of 1,500 unauthorised colonies was also an eyewash since it had still not taken place and maps of houses in these colonies were still not being approved.

Prof. Malhotra also demanded that the Chief Minister approve and return the file on execution of Parliament attack case accused Mohammad Afzal so that terrorists do not think that India is a weak State.

Dr. Vardhan said it was wrong of the Congress leaders to claim that price rise was not an issue for the MCD polls since party president Sonia Gandhi had herself admitted that this was a major reason for the defeat of the Congress in Punjab and Uttarakhand.
