BJP wins Gwalior seat, Congress wrests Sidhi

BHOPAL: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Gwalior parliamentary and the Udaipur Assembly seats, while the Congress won the Sidhi Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh. The byelection results were announced on Sunday.

Madhya Pradesh Minister for Tourism, Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia won the Gwalior seat by defeating Ashok Singh of the Congress by a margin of 35,602 votes.

Ms. Scindia polled 2,10,465 votes, while Mr. Singh 1,74,863. The seat was represented by Congress MP Ram Sevak, who resigned in the wake of the cash-for-question scam.

However, the Congress has managed to stage a comeback by wresting the Sidhi parliamentary seat from the BJP. Its candidate Manik Singh defeated Kunwar Singh of the BJP by a slender margin of 1,576 votes.

Mr. Manik Singh polled 2,12, 998 votes, while the BJP candidate 2,11,412.

The Udaipura Assembly seat was won by Shashi Prabha Ram Pal Singh of the BJP. She polled 52,544 votes against the Congress party's Sahib Singh Patel, who got 33,465 votes.
