Cricket mania

The cartoon based on Virender Sehwag's plight on the eve of World Cup 2007 (March 12) is very interesting and timely. It also shows how religiously attached we are to cricket.

P.U. Krishnan,
Udhagamandalam

The World Cup cricket extravaganza is scheduled in such a way as to spoil the future of students. The young cricket fan brigade is caught between examinations and passion for the game. Thanks to the extensive media coverage of the World Cup, students can neither eat nor sleep without following cricket. Parents cannot do much other than restricting television viewing, which is bound to create tensions.

K.A. Solaman,
Alappuzha

Cricket fever is spreading rapidly and children are certain to remain glued to the television sets. It is therefore important to make them understand that examinations are crucial. The media can help in this regard. They can impress upon students the importance of examinations as well as time through their columns.

R. Arunima,
Thiruvananthapuram
