Special Correspondent
Puducherry: The Project Manager of National Centre for Jute Diversification (NCJD) of the Union Textiles Ministry, A. K. Khastagir, has said that to encourage and help manufacturers of jute products in different parts of the country, the Council had been establishing `Jute Entrepreneurs Service Centres.' One centre each had been opened in West Bengal, Bihar and Puducherry in the last two years in a phased manner, he said. The centres were opened by the NCJD under a scheme of the Central Government to promote small-scale entrepreneurship development in diversified jute products. Necessary support would be provided to the entrepreneurs.
Free training
Two years' free training would be given to those enrolled under the scheme. Trainees would also be helped to set up units so that they could become self-reliant andexport the products. Mr. Khastagir was addressing presspersons on the sidelines of the inauguration of a six- day Jute Fair by Education Minister M O H F Shahjahan here on Monday. K. Srikanth, Organiser of the Development of Hessian Articles Research and Training Institution (DHARTI), said the exhibitions were conducted to create awareness of the products made from jute. Latifa Binte Lutfar, Operations Officer of the Bangladesh-based International Jute Study Group, explained the activities of the group. Now, jute products were being exported to European countries, the U.S., Australia and Japan.
