PSG Tech takes trophy

Coimbatore: PSG College of Technology, with an all-win record in the super league, emerged champion in the inter-engineering hockey tournament for the Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Rolling Trophy here on Sunday. Park College of Engineering and Technology took the second spot.

Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG Tech, gave away the prizes.

Hat-trick by Karthik

Karthik scalped five for 20, including a hat-trick, in Sri Ramakrishna Mills SC's nine-wicket win over Arumugam CC in the TNCA-CDCA first division cricket league here on Sunday.

The scores: Arumugam 78 in 23.1 overs (Karthik five for 20, including a hat-trick, Eswaramoorthy four for 50) lost to Sri Ramakrishna Mills 79 for one in 10.2 overs.

Second div.: Rainbow 292 for eight in 50 overs (T. Rajasekar 115, Kanakaraj 69) bt Suryabala Cricketers 167 (T. Rajasekar four for 20).

Third div.: Coimbatore Friends 282 for eight in 50 overs (Santhosh 66, Suresh 61, Yogesh 48 not out) bt Senthil Srinivasan MC 205 in 45.2 overs (Prakash 63, Antony Rajesh four for 44);

Nilgiris wins a thriller

Nilgiris CC scored a thrilling one-run win over Kents CC in the TNCA-NDCA `A' division cricket league here on Sunday.

The scores: Fern Hill Youngsters 88 (S.D. Vinoth four for 25, Nagaraj four for 15) lost to Colts 92 for two in 10.4 overs (S. Sandeep 50 not out).

Nilgiris 205 (Syed Yashin Razak 50, Dharamveer Singh 54) bt Kents 204 for four in 40 overs (C.K. Deepak 67 not out).

PSPB takes lead

At Puducherry, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board with two grandmasters and 2 international masters took a slender lead by one point (10.5) in the 29th National men's team chess championship here on Monday.

Indian Airlines, West Bengal and LIC followed the leader closely (9.5 points each).

PSPB outplayed Punjab by 3-1/2— 1/2, while Indian Airlines and West Bengal played cautious chess to settle for a draw (2-2).

RSPB had to be content with 1-1/2 points against LIC.

Tamil Nadu made a clean sweep of Karnataka, which lost all the games in this round.

In the women's section, Indian Airlines logged 11 points out of possible 12.

ICRC scores big win

At Tirunelveli, a scintillating unbeaten 92 by Natraj Sankar and five for 24 by Rajesh Kandan helped India Cements Recreation Club (ICRC) carve out a resounding 176-run victory over South Star Cricket Club in the Tirunelveli DCA first division league here on Sunday.

The scores: First division: ICRC 244 for six in 40 overs (Rajadurai 55, Natraj Sankar 92 n.o.) bt South Star CC 68 in 16.2 overs (Rajesh Kandan five for 24); GK CC 223 for seven in 35 overs (Mustafa 57) bt Selva CC `A' 165 in 30.2 overs (Esakkiappa 50); Majestic CC 229 in 34.3 overs (Krishnan 68) bt Melbourne CC 147 in 24.4 overs (Rajesh four for 30); South Star CC 101 in 22.2 overs (Velmurugan five for 16) lost to Majestic CC 105 for four in 16.1 overs; IOB 192 for nine in 40 overs (Shankar Guru 45, Senthil Rajan 42, Manivannan 42) bt Double Star CC 112 in 28.4 overs.
