BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam district administration has decided to take up strict measures to end shortage of domestic LPG refills in the city and the district. District Civil Supply Officer Swaraj Biswal on Monday convened a meeting in the city which was attended by 18 LPG dealers of the district, representative of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOL), the Assistant civil supply officers of Berhampur, Bhanjanagar and Chatrapur. The dealers were directed to supply new refills to customers within one week of booking at their doorsteps. On an average eight kilograms of LPG is supplied for each LPG customer in the city while in Bhubaneswar the average supply is 10.5 kilos. The civil supply department asked the IOL representative to sort out this disparity to end shortage of LPG refills. To check black-marketing of domestic LPG refills, it was decided to arrest workers of LPG dealers, who would be found selling LPG refills in black market. Legal action would also be initiated against the dealer concerned in such cases. The dealers were also reprimanded to stop illegal supply of domestic refills outside the district through agents. In the last few months, acute shortage of domestic LPG refills has led to large-scale black-marketing of these refills in the city and other parts of the district.
