NEW DELHI: "Serve your motherland and help make it a favoured well-being destination for other countries'' was the message that Prof. G. P. Talwar, Director of the Talwar Research Foundation, gave to graduating doctors of Delhi University's College of Medical Sciences here on Monday. "You will certainly be attracted to shores beyond, but times are changing. India is on a new path today and you have to make India a destination for medical treatment in the years to come," said Prof. Talwar, who was the chief guest at the UCMS Annual Day and Convocation ceremony held at India Habitat Centre. Welcoming the new degree holders and award winners as they crossed "an important milestone and entered a new threshold of life", he said, "Even our neighbours, whatever our relations with them are, come to India for treatment because our doctors have a reputation. Please maintain that. You have to further that goal by the thoroughness of your profession combined with skill and talent." Prof. Talwar also urged young doctors to take up research in their chosen discipline and keep pace with whatever is happening around the globe. "The new generation should have an open mind. Try to broaden your horizons. Don't just perform your profession but even contribute to it. Your real life starts tomorrow. Practise your profession without any barriers." Earlier, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental conferred Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) degrees on 32 postgraduate students and MBBS degree on 80 undergraduates. Prof. Talwar felicitated the winners of various college medals and awards. UCMS Principal K. K. Sharma read out the annual report highlighting the academic and co-curricular achievements of students and the work done by the faculty. Prof. Sharma also administered an oath to all the degree holders and award winners.
