Hungarian Orchestra comes to Delhi

NEW DELHI: String musicians of the globally renowned 17-member Hungarian Virtuosi Orchestra will perform at Kamani Auditorium here this Tuesday.

The concert has been brought to Delhi by the Hungarian Information and Culture Centre in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

Formed in 1988 by violin soloist Miklos Szenthelyi, the orchestra has toured the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Europe. The Budapest-born Szenthelyi has given about 100 concerts with his ensemble, and his sonata partner in the recitals is his sister Judit.

Traders meet Rajnath

NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Confederation of All-India Traders called on BJP president Rajnath Singh here on Monday seeking his support for its nationwide agitation against entry of big corporate houses and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector.

Mr. Singh told the delegation that his party was opposed to FDI in the retail sector and said the move would affect small retailers across the country. The BJP, he added, would oppose the move both inside and outside Parliament.

Seminar on Central Asian art

NEW DELHI: A five-day seminar on "The Art of Central Asia and the Indian Sub-continent in Cross-Cultural Perspective (1st A.D -- 14th Century A.D)'' organised by the National Museum Institute opened here on Monday.

The seminar aims at presenting an extensive as well as intensive appraisal of the art and culture of individual regions of Central Asia. It would also concentrate on regions that have not been sufficiently explored till now.

Sixteen foreign scholars from 11 countries are participating in the seminar.

Two sentenced for taking bribe

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday sentenced two State Government employees to three-and-a-half years rigorous imprisonment for taking Rs. 700 as bribe for early delivery of a domicile certificate. Special Judge Sunil Gaur also imposed a fine of Rs. 3,500 each on Nabh Singh (30) and Bhisam Singh (51), posted at Sub-Divisional Magistrate's (SDM) office in Patel Nagar here.
