KORAPUT : Sabita Muduli, a student of class five in Lauriguda primary school of Koraput block would have remained in the house helping her family by working at some construction site like her mother. But thanks to her friends from Meena Manch , she was back to the school. The girls in the group noticed her absence from the class and enquired about it. She was working for a contractor near the village. Feeling the need to bring back her childhood, these girls approached Bhakta Muduli, her father. But the family was in no mood to let her go to the school for fear of losing the daily wages brought home by Sabita. But these girls were determined to bring her to the school and continued putting the pressure on the parents by convincing other elders in the neighbourhood to talk to them. Now Meena Manch has Punai Muduli, Subarna Paik , Janumati Kirsani and Nabita Paik to name a few in their list who have to be brought to the school. And they will come, the confident girls told. There are 25 schools in the district with such Meena Manchs and 256 schools with Meena Cabinets, Padmini Pathi, the gender coordinator of SSA in Koraput said.
