New British Information Centre inaugurated

Centre to be more than just a one-stop-shop for information on UK

SMOOTH SURFING: Orissa Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patro browsing the Internet after he, along with British Deputy High Commisioner, Simon Wilson, inaugurated the new British Information Centre in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

BHUBANESWAR: The British Information Centre on Monday was shifted centre from Jayadev Bhawan to the premises of Harekrushna Mahtab State Library. The new British Information Centre has facilities such as offline computerised and hardback information as well as unlimited online connectivity to allow users to access the latest information on UK.

State Minister for Information Technology, Culture and Energy Surya Narayan Patro and British Deputy High Commissioner Simon Wilson inaugurated the new centre. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mr Wilson said the centre would not just be a one-stop-shop for information on the UK but would help his office carry forward many areas of work done by a foreign embassy including immigration, trade and investment. "Indian students in UK have risen to 20,000 today, and I hope the centre will help guide students from Orissa who are looking at education opportunities in the UK," he said. Mr. Patra said the new centre would strengthen the cultural and business relations between Orissa and UK.
