Dehra Dun: In a surprise decision, Harak Singh Rawat, earlier the prime accused in the Jenny ``unwed mother sex scandal'', was on Monday elected Congress Legislature Party leader in Uttarakhand. The Lansdowne MLA was made CLP leader after a meeting of the newly-elected MLAs here on Sunday authorised the high command to appoint him, State party spokesman Surendra Kumar said.
No consensus
The meeting failed to arrive at a consensus on the choice of leader, but later accepted the Congress president Sonia Gandhi's decision to nominate him. The decision came as a surprise as Mr. Rawat is allegedly involved in the revenue officers recruitment scam and was prime accused in Jenny ``unwed mother sex scandal'' but later discharged by a CBI court. The matter is being investigated by the BJP Government. PTI
