JAIPUR:
Rajasthan Water Resources Minister Sanwarlal Jat on Monday announced that a new Jal Chetana Yatra would be organised in
Mr. Jat told the State Assembly during zero hour that while the State Government was committed to providing water for irrigation and drinking, the ecology of the desert State was changing with the arid areas facing floods and rainfall shrinking in the regions with green cover. He also expressed concern over the declining ground water level in many areas of the State.
Message
The Minister said the Government agencies had approached the people in about 20,000 villages with the message of water conservation and repaired various canal systems to ensure water supply till the tail-end.
A Jal Chetana Yatra organised last year had proved very successful, he added.
Mr. Jat said a massive scheme of the size of Rs.6,500 crore for utilisation of surface water was currently being implemented in the State in addition to regular water supply to the areas of scarcity.
