Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday convened an expert committee meeting that discussed at length stray dog behaviour. The meeting, which was presided over by Commissioner K. Jairaj, discussed several issues, a press release said here on Monday. The meeting decided to form an advisory committee for stray dog management under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (Health). The meeting deliberated on whether there were any specific factors leading to abnormal behaviour of dogs, if sterilisation had any effect on dogs' behaviour, waste from the meat stalls led to aggressive behaviour, and measures to be taken to reduce fatal accidents (like the ones reported at Chandra Layout and BEML Layout). The experts, who participated, opined that there was no single factor that caused abnormal behaviour in dogs. It depended on the season, sex, age, instigative behaviour of dogs. They said that sterilisation generally reduced aggressiveness and the urge to bite. To some extent, dogs which feed on non-vegetarian food are found to be more aggressive than those that feed on vegetarian food. They said that dogs should not be dislocated as that may push them to become aggressive.
