GMC panel approves budget

A special budget meeting of the council will be held on March 24


  • City gets Rs.56 crore for real development from all sources
  • Salaries and other miscellaneous expenditure put at Rs.47.85 crores

    GUNTUR : The Standing Committee of the Guntur Municipal Corporation after four months approved the 2007-08 budgetary provisions with a Rs.6.39-crore surplus at its meeting here on Monday.

    A special budget meeting of the council will be organised on March 24.

    While total receipts from Revenue and Capital account are expected to be Rs.126.35 crores along with the opening balance of Rs.7.59 crores the GMC gets Rs.133.94 crores to spend in the coming financial year subject to approval by Council and Government.

    The expenditure has been estimated at Rs.127.54 crores.

    Out of the budgetary provisions for the new fiscal, the city gets only Rs.56 crore for real development from all sources, programmes and schemes; the remaining goes for salaries and establishment expenses.

    Road repairs

    On the development side, laying of new roads and repair of old ones have been provided Rs.14.35 crores including Rs.2 crore for extension of existing ones.

    Water supply pipeline replacement and extending existing network gets Rs.11.28 crore out which Rs.2 crore would be spent on construction of reservoirs. Central street lighting on some roads has been provided Rs.99 lakhs. Salaries and other miscellaneous expenditure has been put at Rs.47.85 crores.

    New dumping yard

    Under solid waste management, Rs.6.45 crores has been earmarked for acquisition of a new dumping yard site and purchase of new Public Health vehicles. Drainage schemes both underground and over ground would be improved with a layout of Rs.13.04 crores.

    Coming to receipts, property tax would yield Rs.30.99 crores, water tax Rs.10 crores, while a new addition to revenue receipts, vacant land tax was expected to contribute Rs.5.5 crore.

    Advertisements were likely to contribute Rs.1.26 crore, another Rs.3 crore was expected from leasing of markets and other buildings. Under Capital Income head, Rs.35.94 crores would get added mainly coming from Government grants, Rs.8 crores each under APUSP and APURMS, while 12th Finance Commission grant was Rs.4.40 crores and MP LADS and ACDP (MLAs) grant was estimated at Rs.2 crores.
