Under-trial commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old under-trial facing a double murder charge allegedly committed suicide at Tihar Central Jail here on Monday.

According to the police, Sanil George was found hanging from a ceiling fan in an abandoned barrack of the jail.

He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital where he was declared brought dead. No suicide note has been found.

Sanil was charged with double murder at Sriniwaspuri and lodged in Jail No. 3 of Tihar since September 2004.

An enquiry by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been ordered.

One dead in

jhuggi fire

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old eunuch was charred to death and a young man sustained burn injuries in a major fire that broke out at JJ Colony near Sadar Bazar here on Monday.

Over 250 jhuggis and a few shops were gutted.

According to the Fire Service Department, the fire broke out at 12-10 a.m and 28 fire tenders took over five hours to put out the blaze.

The body of Saroj was found in the morning.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Fake certificates racket busted

NEW DELHI: Three persons, allegedly running a fake mark-sheet racket, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police near Mayapuri Chowk here. Several forged mark-sheets, a laptop and a scanner and printer have been seized.

Acting on a tip off that some persons were involved in a fake mark-sheet racket, a decoy customer was sent to them and a deal was struck.

When the accused, Gaurav Sharma (31), Sanjay Sethi (43) and Balvinder Singh (33) reached Mayapuri Chowk with the fake mark-sheets, they were arrested.

Opinions of parents invited

NEW DELHI: In keeping with the Delhi High Court directive, the committee headed by Central Board of Secondary Education Chairman Ashok Ganguly to finalise a viable policy for pre-primary education in the Capital has invited opinions of parents.

These views will be taken into consideration by the committee while making its recommendations.

The questionnaire can be downloaded from the CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in. Parents can send their opinions by e-mail to chmn-cbse@nic.in.

The last date for receiving feedback is Friday.
