Boy's death in school: three arrested

BANGALORE: The Kempapura Agrahara police on Monday arrested Kamalanath, chairman of Sri Surekha International School on Magadi Road, where a first standard student was killed after a pack of bricks fell on him on Saturday afternoon.

The police also arrested Mr. Kamalanath's two sons Suresh, the principal, and Ramesh, the administrator of the school, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra told The Hindu .

The police have booked a case of negligence leading to injuries and death under Sections 337 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code against the three. The school is run by Sri Kamalaa Naidu Education Trust, headed by Mr. Kamalanath.

While Dinesh Kumar was killed, another first standard student suffered serious head injuries after bricks fell on the students who had assembled in the portico around 1.30 p.m.

Meanwhile, members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and some residents of Kempapura Agrahara staged a demonstration in front of the school.

Following the protest, the school suspended the classes for the day.

The police chased away some protesters who turned unruly and tried to block Magadi Main Road.

Killed

Two pedestrians were killed in separate road accidents in the city since Sunday night. Police said an unidentified man aged around 45 was killed after he was knocked down by a car near Nagavara junction on the Outer Ring Road around 8 a.m. on Monday. The Banaswadi traffic police have seized the car and arrested the driver, Anoop, an employee of a multinational company.

In the other incident, another unidentified man aged around 45 died after a goods vehicle hit him on Kanakapura Road Sunday night.

The Banashankari traffic police have seized the car and arrested the driver Satish.

House burgled

Thieves broke into Ramesh's house in Kamakshipalya police station limits around 11 a.m. on Sunday and looted gold ornaments and cash.

Vehicles recovered

The Devarajeevanahalli police have arrested two young men on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from them 12 motorcycles and a scooter, together worth Rs. 5 lakh.
