Holiday sought on election day

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union has demanded Government holiday on March 17 when voting in the teachers/graduates' constituencies takes place to elect their nominees to the Legislative Council.

K. Narasimha Reddy, president, and A. Lakshman, general secretary, in a statement issued here on Monday said declaration of holiday on the polling day would enable Government staff and teachers to vote.

They apprehended hardship to many voters in the absence of a holiday on March 17, pointing out that usually the Government declared a holiday on any polling day.
