Rally against police action

Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: Former MLC A.K. Subbaiah on Monday accused the Virajpet police of booking criminal cases against innocent people who had organised struggles against corruption and police "highhandedness" in Virajpet in the recent times.

He was addressing a rally organised by various organisations in Virajpet town to protest against the alleged corrupt practice in Virajpet hospital and the action of the police to book criminal cases against those who organised the dharna. The organisers alleged that the police had booked cases against them for staging a peaceful dharna in front of the hospital on December 17 last. Cases were booked five days after the event.

Mr. Subbaiah asked why the district administration had stopped transportation of hay from Kodagu to Kerala via the Perumbadi Gate, when hay was carried out of the district to Kerala via Karike. It was an effort to subvert law, he alleged.
