HYDERABAD: Responding to the second notice served by the Andhra Pradesh Government, the AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has deputed a team of three advocates to argue her case for retention of 8.10 acres of land in her possession on the city outskirts. The legal team appeared before the mandal revenue officer (MRO) of Qutbullahpur on March 6 when a hearing was held and sought time to file the affidavit in reply to the notice asking the AIADMK leader to return the "assigned" land in her possession. The MRO posted the final hearing to March 26 when he is likely to finally dispose of the case in exercise of his quasi-judicial powers. The advocates, meanwhile, applied to the MRO and the sub-registrar concerned to furnish certified copies of the documents. The Revenue officials claim that the records available with them are conclusive proof to show that the land at Petbasheerabad originally belonged to the Government but were assigned to beneficiaries from among the weaker sections during 1956-58. Possession of the land by her now was in contravention of the AP Assigned Land (Prohibition of Transfers) Act 1977. The Government recently amended this Act to take over all assigned land that are in the possession of persons other than the original beneficiaries or others. These land are proposed to be distributed to the original assignees or used for public purpose if they are not traced.
