FINAL PREPARATIONS: Students from Vimala Hridaya Girls High School in Kollam busy with their preparations for the SSLC examinations, which begin on Wednesday.
KOLLAM: For the SSLC examinations that commence on Wednesday, 37,768 students are appearing from the three educational sub-districts of Kollam district. They will be writing their examinations from 220 centres. As many as 35,145 regular students and 2,623 private ones would appear for the examinations in the district. The breaks-up of regular students from the three sub-districts are Kollam:18,827, Kottarakara: 9,292 and Punalur: 7,022. The corresponding breaks-up for the students who prepared privately are 1943, 539 and 641. S.Balakrishnan, Deputy Director of Education, said arrangements for the smooth conduct of the examinations were in place. Nearly 2,885 teachers would be supervising the examinations in the district. Each centre would also have a chief superintendent and a deputy chief superintendent. In centres having more than 500 students, there would be an additional deputy chief superintendent. Mr. Balakrishnan said that in order to prevent and detect copying and other examination related offences, strong measures were taken. Two squads were constituted for purpose. A special coaching programme was conducted at schools which registered less than 33 per cent pass in last year's SSLC examinations, he added.
