NEW DELHI:
The Bharatiya Janata Party would insist on a discussion in the Lok Sabha on extradition of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, accused in the Bofors case, as soon as the debate on the general Budget is over later this week.
At a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party on Tuesday morning, it was said that in the week beginning March 19 the party would insist on a discussion on Mr. Quattrocchi, and the Government had promised this.
The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, chaired the meeting and senior leaders, including L.K. Advani and Jaswant Singh, were present.
The unseasonal rain in the north and reports of hailstorms causing damage to wheat crop were also mentioned. Party spokesperson Sushma Swaraj said the BJP would demand a discussion on this subject also as it wanted to know what the Government was doing and how farmers would be helped to cope with the losses.
