Aravind stuns Keerthi Kumar

    HYDERABAD: K.K. Aravind of Tamil Nadu shocked State-mate and top-seed A.J. Keerthi Kumar 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in the 65 years and above singles quarterfinals of the Circars AITA veterans' tennis tournament at Kakinada on Tuesday, according to information received here.

    In another match, P.V. Subba Raju (AP) emerged winner when second-seeded V. Nani Rao conceded the match, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), in favour of the former.

    Other results:

    65 years+ (Quarterfinals): P. Ramakrishna Rao (AP) bt K. Raja Gopala Rao (AP) 6-4, 6-2.

    55 years+ (Semifinals): P.K. Patnaik (Ori) bt Appala Raju Reddy (AP) 6-3, 6-2.

    Quarterfinals: Rajendran (TN) bt G. Rajan (TN) 7-6 (7-3) conceded; Appala Raju Reddy (AP) bt Rahimullah (AP) 6-0, 6-1.

    Sports Authority of India will organise six-week certificate course in sports coaching from May 17 to June 25 at Patiala, Bangalore, Kolkata, Aurangabad, Bhopal, Gandhinagar and Thiruvananthapuram for men and women in several disciplines.

    Last date for submission of applications is March 31 and they should reach In-charge (Academics), SAI, Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Moti Bagh, Patiala.

    The forms are also available with the Deputy Director (Coaching & Academies), SAAP Office, Lal Bahadur Stadium.

    Murthy

    Anupam of Oracle scored a 6-4, 6-1 win against R. Murthy (Capital IQ) in the TCS Cup corporate tennis tournament here.

    Vishnu shines with

    six-wicket haul

    At Visakhapatnam, left arm spinner Vishnu Kumar claimed six wickets for four runs to bowl Vizag Blues to a 105-run win over City C.C. in a first-round match of the 14th annual The Hindu Trophy prize money cricket tournament at the Port Stadium here on Tuesday.

    Gajuwaka Greens beat Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by 193 runs and Victoria C.C. defeated Cavaliers C.C. by six wickets.

    T.K. Ganesh snapped up three wickets and scored 49 runs.

    Greens and Victoria entered pre-quarterfinals.

    The scores:

    Vizag Blues 183 in 49 overs (D. Gangadhar 50, Kiran 25, K.V.S. Anil three for 43) bt City C.C. 78 in 19.1 overs (Vishnu Kumar six wickets for four runs, Kishore three for 37).

    Gajuwaka Greens 310 for eight in 50 overs (R.L.V. Prasad 81, Niranjan Behra 75, K. Ratan Kumar 54, G.V.N. Rao 31) bt V.S.P. 117 in 36.4 overs (Sagar 32, Adinarayana 31, S. Arjun Kumar four for 18).

    Cavaliers C.C. 188 in 43 overs (B.P. Srinivas 33, T.K. Ganesh three for 37) lost to Victoria C.C. 192 for four in 34.4 overs (T.K. Ayyappa Swamy 58 n.o., T.K. Ganesh 49, A.L. Narasimham three for 39).
