Bangalore: Manish Upadhyay's 119 guided Young Challenging Cricketers to a seven-wicket victory over Young CA, Kolar in a KSCA Group I, fifth division league match here on Tuesday. Young Challenging Cricketers reached the target of 217 in 30.4 overs with Rohit Tiwari (53 n.o.) lending support to Manish Upadhyay.
The scores: Group I: Fifth division: Young CA, Kolar 216 in 46.2 overs (Naveen 93, B. Gangadhar six for 82) lost to Young Challenging Cricketers 219 for three in 30.4 overs (Manish Upadhyay 119, Rohit Tiwari 53 n.o.). City Gymkhana 219 for 48.1 overs (Mithun 79, Veera four for 35) lost to Gandhinagar Cricketers 220 for seven in 48 overs (Harsha 52, Rajeev 42). Group II: Second division: KPTCL Sp. Organisation 156 in 41 overs (Mohan Ram five for 55) lost to BEL SC 161 for four in 30.2 overs (Shakir Hussain 64). ITC Sports Club 174 in 49.4 overs (Shanmugasundaram 64, Kashinath five for 61) lost to SWRI 175 for five in 41 overs (Kashinath 53 n.o., Sendil four for 63). Central Excise
pips MEG
Central Excise edged past Madras Engineering Group 8-7 via the `sudden death' in the Field Marshal Cariappa memorial hockey tournament here on Tuesday. The teams scored two goals each in the regulation time with Bikram Pal (56th) and Mandanna (64th) scoring for Central Excise and Thiru (9th) and Shankar (49th) scoring off penalty corners for MEG. In the tie-breaker, Somaiah, Bikram Pal and Ajay scored for Excise while Aiyappa and Karumbiah were off the mark. Thiru, Poovanna and Shankar slotted goals for MEG and Manikanda and Dinesh Tirkey missed out. During the `sudden death' Aiyappa, Somaiah and Karumbiah scored for the winner while Poovanna and Shankar scored for MEG. In another match, Canara Bank beat Madras Engineering Group (Boys) 1-0 with Chenganna (28th) scoring the match winner.
CIL holds KSP
Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) held Karnataka State Police (KSP) to 1-1 draw in a State Super Division football league match at the Football Stadium here on Tuesday. Gopalakrishna scored off a penalty in the 73rd minute to help CIL draw level after KSP struck the opening goal in the 38th minute through Archan. Earlier in an `A' Division league match, BEML defeated BWSSB 2-0. Vimal and Gopi scored for the victors.
