KANNUR: In all, 38,412 students are expected to take the SSLC examinations in the district on March 14. The Kannur education district has 22,004 students, 10,722 girls and 11,282 boys, preparing for the examination. Government Schools account for 4564 boys and 4500 girls who would appear for the examination, while aided school students going to the examination centres on Wednesday would be 4905 and 5250 respectively. Unaided schools will be sending 343 boys and 428 girls to the examination centres. In the special school category, 23 students, including 12 boys, will take the examination. There are 2011 private registrations. Elayavur C.H. Memorial Higher Secondary School has 841 students writing the examination, which is the highest in the Kannur education district. The Thalassery education district accounts for 16,385 SSLC students, including 8244 girls. There are 15,340 students in the regular category and 1045 in the private registration category. The students from Government schools include 2271 girls and 2028 boys and those from aided schools are 5798 and 5956 respectively. Six boys have enrolled for the examination under the special category. Mambaram Higher Secondary School will have the highest number of students (952) appearing for the examination. As many as 186 examination centres have been arranged. Nearly 2500 teachers will be on examination duty.
Inmates to appear
Eleven inmates of the Kannur Central Jail will be appearing for the examination in the district. They include 10 life-term prisoners and another prisoner undergoing a five-year term. Jail teacher Lawrence and Welfare Officer K. Lakshmi helped them prepare for the examination. Ms. Lakshmi said eight other inmates were preparing to take the Plus Two examination. Classes for Class IV and Class VII equivalent examinations were also being held in the prison, she said adding that Akshaya e-literacy programme, yoga, music and spoken English classes were also going on in the jail.
