Railway workshop to be renovated

  • Rs. 85 crore sanctioned, fund release soon
  • Hospet-Londa track-doubling work gets sanction

    HUBLI: The Union Government has sanctioned Rs. 85 crore for the development of the century-old Hubli Railway Workshop and is likely to release the funds shortly.

    The General Manager of South Western Railway, Praveen Kumar, informed this to a delegation of Karnataka Development Forum led by its president Dr. Patil Puttappa, which met him recently, according to a release.

    Mr. Praveen Kumar said as soon as the funds were released for the purpose, the development works in the workshop would begin. The works include renovation of the workshop and upgrading the technology. Incentives to workshop employees were on the anvil.

    He said sanction had been given to Hospet-Londa track-doubling work, which would be implemented in a phased manner.

    Upgrading of stations

    Five railway stations of Hubli division would be upgraded and initial work on the projects had already begun. The General Manager promised to look into the issues raised by the forum and take action. Dr. Patil Puttappa and other members of the delegation namely R.R. Hombal, former MP I.G. Sanadi, Megharaja Kawad, Andanappa Sajjanar, Rajashekhar Mensinakai and Babajan Mudhol brought to the notice of the official several of the long-pending demands of railway users of the region.

    Demands

    A direct train to Gulbarga, additional ticket reservation counters in Hubli Railway Station, additional counters for unreserved tickets and late arrival of Inter-city Express were some of the issues raised by the delegation, the release said.
