RI for TTD officer

TIRUPATI: TTD's Vigilance Officer T. Sivakumar Reddy was sentenced to three months rigorous imprisonment by the II Additional District Munsif Magistrate, Tirupati, M. Gurunath in a contempt case. Mr. Reddyis however said to have been granted time to appeal. The case was filed against him by another police officer, Karunakar who was then the CI, taking exception to his alleged remarks at a press meet that the police in Tirumala were collecting money from pilgrims who wanted to use the locker facility at TTD's complex.— Special Correspondent

Maoist leader held

Srikakulam: CPI (Maoist) leader Ganti Prasad was arrested at Komati village in Narasannapeta mandal on Tuesday. He was produced in court at Kotabommali and remanded till March 26. According to Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha, a non-bailable warrant under Section 307 had been pending against him since 1997. — Special Correspondent

Landmines unearthed

ONGOLE: The police unearthed three powerful landmines allegedly planted by CPI (Maoists) on Akkapalem-Sathakodur road in Pullalacheruvu mandal of Prakasam district on Tuesday. Each landmine was planted with 20-25 kg explosive material. Police suspect that the Maoists might have targeted police forces visiting the forest areas during Council elections . — Special Correspondent

YSR's investment

plea to Malaysia

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has urged Malaysian High Commissioner-designate Ashok K. Kantha to explore the possibility of investments in biotechnology, food processing and other sectors in the State.

Mr. Kantha, who called on the Chief Minister on Tuesday, said that Malaysian investors were interested in construction of roads, ports and airports. an official release said.— Special Correspondent

Language pundit exam

HYDERABAD: Director for Government Examinations has said that Hindi, Urdu and Telugu pundit (HPT/TPT/UPT) examinations for regular candidates for 2005-06 batch and private candidates for batch 2004-05 (new syllabus) will be conducted from April 9 to 13.— Special Correspondent

CEEP on April 22

HYDERABAD: The CEEP-2007 will be conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training on April 22 at 11 a.m. Applications can be filed from any Internet centre, AP online/ Rajiv internet centres, e-seva and helpline centres established at various polytechnics. — Special Correspondent

APPSC selections

HYDERABAD: The AP Public Service Commission has provisionally admitted 16 candidates for the oral test to be held on March 22 for the selection of Assistant Director of Survey and Land Records. A press release here on Tuesday said the verification of certificates would take place on March 21 and the interview the next day.

The APPSC, according to another notification, has selected nine candidates for the -direct recruitment of junior lecturers in the AP Intermediate Education Service. — Special Correspondent

Two tribals drowned

NALGONDA: Two tribals were drowned in Krishna waters downstream Nagarjunasagar project on Monday night.

Vijayapuri SI B. Somi Reddy said that Banawath Balya (25) of Jammanakota thanda and Vadthya Baddu (23) of Nagarjuna thanda of Peddavura mandal ventured into the waters for fishing near the power station.

Balya's body was fished out.— Staff Reporter
