HYDERABAD: The Congress issued a three-line whip to its legislators on Tuesday to be present in the State capital from March 20 till 22 to elect their representatives to the Council from the MLAs' quota.

Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Reddy asked all the Congress legislators to compulsorily attend the Assembly session on all the three days. He asked them to be present in the city two days ahead of the election on March 22.

The Congress has fielded 20 candidates for the Council election though it can ensure victory of 19 nominees on the basis of the first preferential votes. The party is keen on ensuring the victory of its 20th candidate on the basis of the second and subsequent preferential votes.

The contest has become interesting in wake of the presence of 32 candidates in the fray for the 31 seats with both the Congress and the TDP fielding extra candidates.
