To include 800 tribal sub-plan villages in scheduled areas

  • Plan to include 800 tribal sub-plan villages in scheduled areas
  • It was submitted by the State in November 1980

HYDERABAD: The Centre is yet to act on a proposal submitted by the State 26 years ago for inclusion of 800 tribal sub-plan villages in the scheduled areas.

Based on a Cabinet resolution, the proposal to include the villages which are contiguous with the scheduled areas and are spread across nine districts, was submitted on November 2, 1980, Social Welfare Minister D. S. Redya Naik informed the Assembly on Tuesday.

Replying to a calling-attention motion tabled by Ch. Babu Ramesh (TDP) and four others, he

admitted that inclusion of the villages has been delayed. The Centre had requested for confirmation of the proposal. Giving district-wise details of the villages, he said the proposal was under active consideration for confirming the same and forwarding to the Centre for formal declaration.

    Proposed additions

The proposed additions district-wise are -- Srikakulam (240 villages), Vizianagaram (181), Adilabad (164), Visakhapatnam (91), Warangal (76), East Godavari (40) Mahabubnagar (four), Khammam (three) and West Godavari (one).

The Government would first try to get the 800 villages declared and send another proposal for inclusion of other villages. As many as 5,948 villages in nine districts had already been notified as scheduled areas, Mr. Naik stated.

    K. Atchan Naidu (TDP) wanted more villages to be included in the list for getting declared as scheduled areas. He urged the State to pressure the Centre in this regard. P. Ramaiah (CPI-M) suggested to the Government to pursue the issue in a time-bound manner, while R. Ravindra Kumar (CPI) urged the Minister to take initiative to get them declared quickly. A. Govind Naik (TRS) said many Girijan areas were not included in the scheduled areas.
