HASSAN: Folklore (Janapada) is the essence of life and it had come up owing to efforts of illiterate people and not Ph.D holders. Its contribution to the development of Kannada language and culture is immense said H.S. Prakash, MLA, here on Tuesday. He was inaugurating district-level Janapada and Bhava Geethe competitions at Government Arts College. He advised youngsters to protect and promote folklore. Mr. Prakash said in earlier days the spread of education was considered sacred. Today education had become a business and the poor were being deprived of quality education. In those days, though people were illiterate they were cultured but the situation had changed now. Students should take it as a challenge and succeed in life. Principal of the college proposed the vote of thanks.
