COMMON CAUSE: Members of the Hassan Zilla Dharmika Datti Archakara Abhivrudhi Sangha and Hassan mechanics association (right) protesting against Cauvery tribunal verdict, in Hassan on Tuesday.
HASSAN: More than 200 priests all over the district took out a protest rally against the Cauvery tribunal verdict. They brought bells (Ganti), Jhangati and other utensils used while performing pooja. Hassan Zilla Dharmika Datti Archakara Abhivrudhi Sangha organised the protest rally. The procession started from Sri Lakshmi Chennakeshava Swamy temple and passed through Hemavathi statue before arriving at the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Memorandum
In the memorandum submitted to the Government through the Deputy Commissioner K.H. Aswathanarayana Gowda, they said the Central Government was responsible for the tribunal verdict going against the interests of Karnataka. If no steps were taken by the Central Government, then they would intensify the agitation. In another protest, activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike took out a procession and staged a dharna in front of the office of Amogh Cable Net Work, a local cable operator, in protest against relay of Tamil channels such as Sun TV. They presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner K.H. Aswathanarayana Gowda. Hassan mechanics association too joined the protest. They submitted a memorandum to the Government urging it not to publish the judgment in the Gazette.
Gram panchayat
Members of the gram panchayat took out a procession and in their memorandum submitted to the Government described the tribunal verdict as unscientific. Students of Government Arts College, who also took out a protest rally, appealed to the Government to file a revision petition. They also wanted removal of silt in the command areas.
