Rs. 49.15-crore action plan set to improve quality of education

Focus on completion of school buildings, addition of classrooms


  • Officials urged to take steps to improve the quality of education
  • School dropouts will be identified and provided education

    BELLARY: M.P. Prakash, Home Minister, underlined the need for members of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to find the hurdles coming in the way of improving the quality of education and suggest steps to overcome them.

    Presiding over the meeting to review the implementation of SSA here on Monday, Mr. Prakash expressed concern over the district remaining backward as far as education was concerned and said the officials should strive hard to take necessary steps to improve the quality of education.

    Amount spent

    The meeting was informed that of the Rs. 61.03 crore approved for the implementation of SSA in the district for the year 2006-07, Rs. 45.27 crore had been spent up to February last.

    The meeting has approved the Rs. 49.15-crore action plan for the year 2007-08. The action plan would focus on completion of school buildings, adding classrooms, providing suitable aids for physically challenged students, identifying school dropouts and providing them education, construction of buildings for all five Kasturba Gandhi Residential Schools for girls started in the district and completing it during the year.

    Awards presented

    Mr. Prakash distributed the taluk-level awards for the schools that have performed very well and excelled in providing education.

    He also presented the Yuva Vignana Prashasthi 2007 awards to Kirankumar of Chlakanahalli High School in Hospet taluk (first), A.S. Girija of Bannikallu Government High School in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk (second) and Mohammed Ansar Hussain of Vienna School in Bellary.

    Durgamma, president of zilla panchayat; K.A. Ramalingappa, vice-president of zilla panchayat; Bhagirathi Marulasiddanagowda and K.S.L. Swamy, legislators; Rudragowda, chairman of zilla panchayat standing committee on Health and Education; Leela, Rajamma, Bheema Nayak, members of SSA; Aravind Srivastav, Deputy Commissioner; C.M. Shirol, CEO; other elected representatives and officials attended the meeting.
