GULBARGA: Angry residents of areas that receive water supply from the overhead tank near the old Superintendent of Police office stormed into the hall where Chandrasekhar Patil Revoor, MLA, was conducting a review meeting on the drinking water situation in the city on Tuesday and exhibited carcasses of bats and sparrows which they alleged had popped out of their water taps. The residents alleged that the overhead tank did not have any cover and had become a resting place for bats and birds. Mr. Revoor questioned civic officials present whether the complaint was true, and the officials admitted that the tank's cover had become damaged some time ago but it had neither been replaced nor repaired. When Mr. Revoor asked them why no steps had been taken to repair the cover or install wire meshes across the top of the tank, the officials had no reply. The residents told Mr. Revoor that they had lodged several complaints with officials of the City Corporation and the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) with regard to the open tank and the health problems that could be caused due to infection of the tank's water by bats and birds. They had also demanded that the cover be replaced, but to no avail. Mr. Revoor directed Corporation Commissioner S.P. Mudhol to take up repairs on the overhead tank immediately.
