Deployment of water tankers ordered

Staff Correspondent

Operation to begin in Gulbarga today

  • Corporation to use Rs. 30 lakh for water supply operation
  • New pipeline from river to be laid at cost of Rs. 7.5 crore

GULBARGA: Chandrasekhar Patil Revoor, MLA, has directed the City Corporation authorities to take up transportation of water to all parts of the city from Wednesday to tackle the current water shortage.

Chairing a review meeting on the water situation with senior officials of the Gulbarga City Corporation and the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) at the Gulbarga Development Authority (GDA) hall here on Tuesday, Mr. Revoor directed the Corporation officials to use available funds for transportation of water to all parts of the city.

Corporation Commissioner S.P. Mudhol told Mr. Revoor that the Corporation had already prepared a list of 50 localities in the city that were facing a severe shortage of water and would require immediate supply. It had identified 150 points in the city that the water tankers would visit every day, he said.

He said the Corporation expected the demand for water to grow even further in the coming days and was, therefore, in the process of identifying another 60 points in the city that the tankers would visit in order to cope with the situation. The Corporation would use available funds of Rs. 30 lakh for the purpose.

KUWSDB officials said that the work on laying the new pipeline from Saradgi Barrage to the city was nearing completion. They said pumps were being set up to supply water from the new pipeline to the City Corporation.

Mr. Revoor expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in beginning work on the new pipeline from Bennethora river to the city. KUWSDB officials replied that the work would be taken up at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore soon.
