SRIKAKULAM: A mop-up pulse polio immunisation campaign will be carried out in the district on March 18 (Sunday). This is being done in view of the reports of two instances of polio cases in Visakhapatnam and East Godavari disgtricts. According to Collector V.N.Vishnu, there are 2.98 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 in the district. The Rotary International is extending its cooperation in this round of pulse polio programme. He appealed to parents to make it a point to get their children immunised. Kakinada: Arrangements to be made for the special pulse polio mop up programme to be taken up for three days commencing from March 18 has been discussed at the district task force meeting here on Monday. Collector M Subrahmanyam, who presided, asked the officials to ensure cent percent coverage with the major thrust on the migrated population. He said it was a matter of serious concern that two fresh cases of polio were reported -- one from Samalkot in East Godavari and the second in neighbouring Visakhapatnam district. In order to ensure effective coverage this time, he said, a door-to-door coverage would be taken up for two days on March 19 and 20. He said eight lakh polio vaccine doses were made ready to cover 5,75,478 children in the age group of below five years. He said a total of 3,250 polio booths, including 2,033 in rural areas, 596 in urban areas and 621 in tribal areas were being arranged deploying 300 supervisors, 3,000 health staff and 9,000 volunteers. He said 101 mobile booths also are being arranged to cover the migrated population. DMHO Dr Jayaram, additional DMHO Dr Pavan Kumar, District Immunisation Officer Dr B Phanindra, Municipal Commissioner K Venkateswerlu and Municipal health Officer Dr Purushottam attended.
