VIZIANAGARAM: Though the TDP does not have the required number to get its candidate Appikonda Sriramulu Naidu, ZPTC member from Ramabhadrapuram, elected from Vizianagaram local authorities constituency, it is contesting the election to safeguard the principles of democracy, according to party leader P. Ashok Gajapati Raju. The Congress has 170 more voters than the TDP out of the total 712 in the district. Vasireddy Varada Rama Rao, former MLA from Terlam is the Congress candidate. Addressing ZPTCs, MPTCs and party mandal convenors at the general body meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Raju said the party was against revival of Legislative Council but elections were thrust on it. Hence, binding by the party principles it fielded Mr. Sriramulu Naidu and G. Tirupathi Rao from LAC and graduates' constituencies respectively. He asked partymen to campaign in their favour. There are 31 candidates in fray from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam graduates' constituency. Party district ad hoc committee convenor Y. Ramana Murty exuded confidence that Tirupathi Rao would win the graduates' seat.
