State to take up LPG tax issue with Centre

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government will take up with the Centre the question of passing on to the consumer the fall of Rs.22 in the price of LPG following the introduction of VAT.

This follows the failure of a meeting convened by Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran here on Tuesday to take a decision on the issue.

The representatives of oil companies told the meeting that the companies were directly collecting the reduction in the price of LPG which the consumers were eligible for. They were told that it was illegal.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Additional Chief Secretary, the Food Secretary, Controller, Director and Commissioner.
