CHENNAI: Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi said here on Tuesday that work on the Bangalore and Hyderabad airports was progressing quickly because they did not face organised protests as in Chennai. He was responding to a question on the delay in the expansion of the Chennai airport and the relatively quick pace at which work on the Bangalore and Hyderabad airport expansion projects were proceeding. Here, suggestions of all sections had to be taken into consideration before taking a decision, he said.
Teacher posts
On the basis for filling vacancies in schools, he said that B.Ed graduates who had registered in employment exchanges were called for interview based on their seniority of registration and the recruitment board was directed to select them on a 1:1 basis. The total number of vacancies for class 6,7 and 8 was 7979. Some people went to court and contended that no one should be selected without writing an examination. But the Court refused to interfere in the interest of filling the vacancies quickly.
Milk price hike
On the milk price rise, Mr. Karunanidhi said AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa had no right to criticise the Government. She conveniently forgot she had raised the price of milk by Rs.2 in 2001. The present hike was Rs.1.25, which was much less than the hike effected by Jayalalithaa government in 2001 and also when she was Chief Minister earlier.
