HYDERABAD: The HMWSSB plan to install sophisticated bulk flow meters in select areas on its distribution system at a cost of Rs. 10 crores under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission Programme was given the green signal by the Centre. The plan was a part of the board's water audit exercise to keep a tab on the supply volumes, water wastage and also imbalances in water supply and corresponding revenue accrued. "We will call for tenders shortly and begin the installation process in the reservoirs and trunk flow mains," HMWSSB Managing Director K.S. Jawahar Reddy said. In the second stage, the bulk flow meters would be installed in different parts of the city, taking into account clusters of connections. "Areas with some 1,000 connections will be identified (District Metered Areas) to track the water volume being supplied and revenue earned. This way, we can check the huge revenue loss being suffered due to pilferage and illegal connections," he explained.
