BAnGALORE: The legislator again proved on Monday why he cannot be pulled down from the post of Chief Minister. Those familiar with the theatrical abilities of MLC Mukhyamantri Chandru know why. Many who did not know this understood it on Monday when the play "Mukhyamantri" (Chief Minister), which earned the prefix to his name, was performed at Ravindra Kalakshetra. Mr. Chandru played the lead role. He is one of the few gifted artistes with rich voice and unique modulation skills, and naturally, he won applause from the audience at the end of every scene. He must have grown a better actor over the years, having seen politics from close quarters being an MLC. The play is about how a Chief Minister retains his post for the second term and the political gimmicks he resorts to in achieving this. Directed by B.V. Rajaram, and adopted to Kannada by T.S. Lohitashwa, the play proved to be an entertainer giving a glimpse of Indian politics. Why Indian politicians do not retire is one of the issues raised in the play. The Mukhyamantri answers: In countries such as the U.S., people come to politics from different professions. They go back to the professions once their term ends or when they are removed from high posts. In India, politicians know nothing other than politics. "What do I do if not politics?" he asks his son. The young man shrugs and offers him no solution.
