India is being recognised as a growing economic power, but the country's position has not been duly acknowledged in international bodies such as United Nations (U.N.), the former Ambassador to the U.N. T.P. Sreenivasan has said. He was addressing the valedictory of the Kerala Management Association. The Indian candidature for the top U.N. job was vetoed by the U.S. despite the suitability of the candidate for the position, he said. Some of the big powers were keen on limiting India's progress, he observed. Another interesting observation he made was that the country could have got a permanent seat in the U.N. Security Council in the Sixties if it had wanted it then. Referring to management skills, he said there was nothing wrong in learning lessons from western schools, but suggested that the vision enshrined in books such as the `Arthasasthra' be incorporated into the Indian management curriculum. The successful running of the Indian Railways was a testimony to the Indian management skills, he said.
