KOCHI : While their friends are facing the heat of the CBSE examination, eight students of the Luke Memorial Public School at Iringol are fighting to hold their tears back. Two weeks after the Class X board examinations started, the fate of these children remains uncertain, thanks to the callousness of the school authorities. Even on the eve of the examination, they were unaware that their alma mater did not have proper registration. The parents are now running from one place to another for finding a solution to the vexed issue. "What can we do at this last hour?'' asks C.M. Kochahammed, father of a student. "We have petitioned the board authorities against the plight of our children. Fax messages have been sent to the President and the Chief Minister seeking their intervention in the matter," he said. The parents said they were kept in the dark about the fact that the school did not have the registration for Class X. Mohankumar, father of another student, said the school authorities had assured them that the children would be able to write the examination without any problem. "When we reached the campus to receive the hall ticket, they told us that they failed to register the students for the final board examination. This was a real blow to us. We had trusted the school management for the last 13 years. They have not got the registration for conducting Class IX and X," he said. Aswathy, a student who had prepared hard for the examination, said the Principal had repeatedly told them that there was nothing to worry. "They told us that we would be writing the examination in another school. We were also told that hall tickets would be issued through the school where we would be appearing for the examination," she said. "We have requested the CBSE authorities to issue a special order for writing the examination. The children would lose one valuable year if they are not able to write the examination now," said Mr. Mohankumar. The parents also approached other schools to get their children registered for the next year's examination once they failed to get a special order. The school manager and Principal could not be contacted. The Kuruppampady police registered a case on charges of cheating against the school management.
