Thiruvananthapuram : The Managlapuram police have registered case against 65 persons in connection with the illegal shooting of an advertisement film at Asan Memorial at Thonakkal in the suburbs on March 10, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar told the Assembly. Replying to a submission raised by M.A. Waheed (Congress) on the issue in the House on Tuesday, Mr. Vijayakumar, who is also holding charge of Home, said the promotional film was shot for Shifa Textiles owned by Abdul Kalam of Chirayinkeezhu. The police had booked Kalam along with Jayapraksah of Manacaud. The Minister said the Managalapuram police intervened and stopped the shooting in the afternoon of March 10 following a complaint from the authorities that the shooting was being carried out without seeking permission. On March 12, the police registered a case following the complaint from Director Subash that the lawns of the memorial were damaged and those who carried out shooting had trespassed into the premises. The Minister said the Government was seriously viewing the incident and action would be taken against the guilty. The videocassette would be confiscated. Sub-Inspector (Mangalapuram) is inquiring into the incident. Raising the issue, Mr. Waheed said the shooting was taken up on the basis of the letter given by a CPM leader and blamed the police for not arresting those behind the shooting on March 10. Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy, who intervened, said the incident was an insult to everyone.
