`346 drug seizure cases'

Thiruvananthapuram: The police have registered 346 cases in 2006 in connection with the seizure of ganja, hashish and brown sugar in the State.

In a written reply to Simon Britto Rodrigues, Minister for Home Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the Assembly on Tuesday. As per this, the largest number of 48 cases related to seizure of ganja was registered in Thiruvananthapuram city limits followed by 40 in Ernakulam city. Twenty-one cases were registered in Thiruvananthapuram rural limits with seizure of ganja. In all, 312 cases were registered in the State in connection with the seizure of 440.960 kg of ganja. Only one case had been registered in connection with seizure of hashish and this was in the State capital. Five gm of hashish had been recovered.
