Firm bags 4 projects

HYDERABAD: Gayatri Projects Ltd (GPL) has secured four projects amounting to Rs 192.09 crores. T. V. Sandeep Reddy, Managing Director of the company, said they were road development project of Asian Development Bank (Rs 118.07 crores) in Chhattisgarh, flood control measures at Visakhapatnam airport (Rs 51.19 crore), construction of internal road at Jindal Steel plant in Orissa (Rs 15 crore) and development of roads, drains and culverts at Bongaigaon Refinery in Assam (Rs 7.63 crores). — Special Correspondent

Investment on doctors

HYDERABAD: The Government is investing, on an average, Rs.20 lakhs on every MBBS graduate and Rs.24 lakhs on a post-graduate medical student. Health Minister K. Rosaiah informed T. Gopala Krishna (Congress) in the Assembly on Wednesday that there was no proposal to make it mandatory for the doctors to join the Government service for a period of two to three years. — Special Correspondent

'Regularise services'

HYDERABAD: The APSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation has demanded introduction of a Bill in the Assembly for regularising casual and contract staff working in the corporation. P.N.Murthy, vice-president, and R. Lakshmaiah, general secretary, in a statement issued here on Wednesday called upon contract/casual workmen to intensify their agitation for getting the demand conceded. — Special Correspondent

Injured in clash

KADAPA: Three persons were injured when two groups of Congress activists clashed in Rameswaram in Proddatur town on Wednesday, during a survey to identify beneficiaries under Indiramma scheme. Congress activists Palleti Prabhakar Reddy, Palleti Chandrasekhar Reddy and Vijaya Sudhakar sustained head injuries in the attack. Police registered a case against former municipal chairman Rachamallu Prasada Reddy, municipal councillor Kota Sanjeevarayudu, Congress activist Bangaru Reddy and 17 others. — Staff Reporter

Bomb hoax at bank

KADAPA: Vempalle branch of Andhra Pradesh Pragathi Grameena Bank received an anonymous call on Wednesday that a bomb was placed there. Staff and depositors left the premises immediately. But, police concluded after a thorough search that it was a hoax call. — Staff Reporter

Demand for posts

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Brahmana Sevasangh Samakhya has appealed to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to appoint its members as chairmen of corporations following the completion of the terms of some of incumbents. In a representation to K.V.P.Ramachandra Rao, adviser to the Government, the members sought the nomination to the council of K. Dayasagar, a member of the APCC. — Special Correspondent
