CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting him to take steps to ``suspend online trading in all essential commodities as an interim measure'' to control the increase in prices of essential commodities.
``Much speculation''
The letter, a copy of which was released to the press, said: ``It has come to our notice that the introduction of online trading has caused much speculation and fuelled the rise of prices of essential commodities. The Government of India's decision to suspend online trading in toor dhal and urad dhal and the constitution of a committee to study the effects of online trading on prices seems to reflect this point of view,'' he said and requested that the Forward Markets Commission be directed to suspend online trading.
